Three Rivers Healthy Carolinians of Bertie and Chowan counties is a collaborative community-based network dedicated to improving the quality of life for all of our residents by addressing and evaluating community issues, supporting health education, awareness and resource accessibility. This will be accomplished by planning, implementing, and evaluating wellness programs and encouraging overall healthier lifestyle choices.
Who are the members?
Community members are the most qualified to effectively identify and solve health and safety issues in their community! It takes the involvement of everyone in the community to carry out the mission of Three Rivers Healthy Carolinians. Members include diverse groups of people from schools, religious organizations, health care organizations and local government, but most importantly…IT TAKES YOU!!!

Introducing the Working Subcommittees of Three Rivers Healthy Carolinians
Chronic Disease
Focuses on reducing the rate of cancer, diabetes, and heart disease by addressing risk factors for these diseases. Coordinates various programming with the faith-based communities, Lay Health Advisors, and community members through educational sessions, prevention awareness, and health screenings.
Fitness and Wellness
Actively promotes physical fitness and nutrition to reduce the risk of chronic disease and works to provide opportunities for community members to be phsicll active. Provides physical activity opportunities including walking trails, the Winner’s Circle healthy dinning guide, and cardiovascular health education including tobacco cessation programming.
Maternal and Child Health
Focuses on decreasing infant mortality and the rate of low birth weight infants through maternal education. Emphasis is placed on educational opportunities and prevention strategies in reducing the rate of adolescent pregnancies. Another focus area deals with strategies in order to reduce the incidence of childhood overweight an/or obesity.
The Albemarle Crisis Pregnancy Center holds Creative Parenting, parent education classes for pregnant or parenting women. Women can participate until their children turn 5 years old.
Classes are held in the Edenton office at 316 S. Broad Street on the third Thursday of each month from 3:30 to 5:00 p.m.
Participants receive point sheets and earn points for doing things throughout the month. Points are then used to purchase items for their children in the Creative Parenting Boutique at the center. Class participants must be center clients and pre-register for class. Classes are offered free of charge. Call the 482.2185 for more information or to sign up.
Healthy Nutrition for Children
January 27th - 6 pm to 8pm at College of The Albemarle in Edenton.
The workshop will include MyPyramid for Kids to help them develop healthy eating and exercise habits.
The cost is $3.00 for child care providers (they receive contact hours) but free to parents.
