What Is TRU?

T.R.U. is an acronym for Tobacco Reality Unfiltered which is a statewide effort to encourage teens, ages 12-17, to visit realityunfiltered.com and sign a tobacco-free pledge.  It’s part of TRU-tobacco.reality.unfiltered-North Carolina’s teen tobacco prevention campaign.

Why Do It?

Meet new people, make new friends across the state!
Help save lives!
Looks great on college application and resume!
Cool prizes for participation!
It’s free and fun!

Why is signing a TRU Pledge so important?

Studies show that teens who indicate that they have interest in trying tobacco in the future are more likely to become regular smokers.  Those who have thoughts about tobacco and made a strong decision not to try it, are less likely to become regular smokers in the future.  It may sound silly, but tobacco-free pledges really can work!
